Internet

Internet#

Temporary title, haven't decided yet

Intended to record exciting things that the internet brings to me. It can be websites or events

Preface#

I quite enjoy doing this thing, clicking on a link that interests me on a website and being redirected to another website. After repeating this process multiple times, when I look back, I often can't remember where I jumped from to this website. But often, the websites I open can give me something, at least I find them interesting.

Many blogs also have a section for friend links. There is also a name with a certain artistic conception called "Heading".

The internet greatly reduces the distance between people, but it still forms islands of various sizes. And these links are like bridges connecting these islands.

The six degrees of separation theory was first proposed in 1967, when there was no internet. And today, decades later, with the help of the internet, as long as there are good links, intermediaries may no longer need to be 6 people, and they can establish connections between two people who were originally strangers to each other.

I think this is the charm of the internet to me.

Today I thought about reading the paper that gave birth to Bitcoin, Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. There was a link in the references section of the paper, and with a try-it-out attitude, I clicked on it. The website loaded quickly. There wasn't much decoration, it was just plain text. At that time, I had a feeling of being touched. In 1998, I stumbled upon it like this.

What surprised me even more was that the last modification date of this website was 1/10/2021. I find it difficult to describe my current feelings in appropriate words. But I just feel very pleasantly surprised.

Then I searched for the author, Wei Dai, who is of Chinese descent. He was probably around 22 years old when he wrote this article. !!!

I discovered this website Game of Life. I have always had the idea of implementing a Game of Life myself, but I never got around to it. This website is well done and can be used as a reference.

May 5, 2023#

Today I experienced something very interesting.

  1. At first, I saw someone starred SuikaXhq/seu-bachelor-thesis-2022 on the timeline.

  2. I found a project starred by the author of the project, seuite/awesome-seu.

  3. Then I discovered an association that once existed and was active in the school - the Southeast University Network Technology and Open Source Technology Association. Unfortunately, this association is no longer being passed down, and its official website has also been taken down. But from the projects still existing on GitHub and the blogs, you can still see that this was a very interesting association.

  4. The president of this association also wrote a blog, although it is no longer accessible, but there is a sentence in the project that makes me feel very touched.

A little boy who was curious about computers has now grown up to be a big boy who is even more curious about computers. I still feel that I haven't touched the threshold of computers, and I feel that I have only explored a tiny corner of this vast world. The world explored by the geniuses, engineers, and ordinary people in the past is already not small, but when I look up, that vast, unknown, beautiful, and mysterious new world is still waiting for me, my friends, my teachers, and all people to continue learning, exploring it. I believe that the achievements that computers bring to humanity are not just this little bit now, there is more, farther, and broader content waiting for us, one generation after another, to continue walking, to continue searching, to continue liking.

    I like this perspective.

  5. Today I also discovered several outstanding seniors. From their blogs, I saw some of their thoughts and experiences when they were in school. Especially their notes from when they were in school. It feels quite magical.

Spacewar!.

At first, I didn't understand it, but after playing for a few minutes, I understood. It's a pretty interesting little game. What attracts me more is that it is a game from 1962. The weight of history, the charm of a good game that transcends time. It's so wonderful.

Then I suddenly thought of the testing game on Steam, also called Spacewar, homage? coincidence? It has a kind of wonderful feeling.

naming - Why it is called "hash table", or "hash function"?

Maybe I misunderstood, but after reading it, I still don't quite understand why it's called hash. The answers below seem to be talking about what hash is used for.

YUME Dreamland

A website for recording dreams. Quite interesting.

The website has been running for 11 years and still has a certain number of users. I think it's impressive.

Unfortunately, the ideas proposed by the author in 2011, it seems that there is still no better implementation. (Or maybe I haven't found it yet)
